Doc West A.K.A. Dr.
Westcoast (born Gabrial Hernandez Jr. on November 1, 1989) is a Musician
and Vice President of the independent hip hop label, The THORO
Organization, and 1/2 member of the group Westcoast Cartel. He was born
in Compton, CA & raised in Carson, CA.
He grew up in small neighborhood in Carson known as Victoria Park. He
attended Towne Ave. Elementary school where he met his childhood friends
that he sometimes mentions in his songs. After graduating elementary
school in 2000, he went to Glenn H. Curtiss Middle School. It was there,
at the age of 12 (in 2001), where he started learning how to mix
different tracks together, creating "blends" and "remixes" from
acapellas and instrumentals of many songs. He went by the name of
"G-Rizzle" and continued making mixes into his high school years.
While he was attending Carson Senior High, he started making beats
that included sample of many other musicians outside of the hip hop
genre. The beats included such artists as Johnny Cash, Nirvana, Frank
Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and many other alternative rock groups. He would
register online to many numerous message boards to promote and share
his mixes and beats to other producers around the world. It was then, in
2005, where he met a DJ named DJ Dub Cee on a Westcoast message board.
DJ Dub Cee listened to his mixes and enjoyed them so much that he
recruited Doc West
(then, G-Rizzle) to be part of his DJ Crew, Westcoast Cartel. G-Rizzle
gladly accepted. DJ Dub Cee went on to introduce G-Rizzle to two other
members of the group, Gatz & Liquid Strife.
